Entry made June 26, 2005 : Drinking and Trivia

A few weeks ago Brian let me know that I should hop on a thing called Jabber. Jabber is a way to group all of the IM programs together. It also provides for group chat rooms similar to IRC. We got to talking about old IRC days and decided that one thing we missed was trivia. There were these bots that would sit in a room, ask questions and hand out points to whoever got the question right. I did some looking and couldn't find any trivia bots for jabber out there. So it looked like it was time to write one.

I decided that since I had never really written a perl program that counted as a program I would write it in perl. I found the libraries required to program jabber stuff in perl and got to work. It ended up that figuring out how to use the jabber libraries was the toughest part. But I figured it out and now I have a working trivia bot (I'll put it up on the webpage when I get some small finishing touches put on it).

So Now that I finished up all the hard stuff on the trivia bot, I've been trying to figure out a way to get people to find the channel. I just need to try different servers to get some walk-ins.

That's about all that I've been up to for the last while. Although, Steve has been in town for the last couple weeks for his wedding. He got married last night on the oval, then he had the reception at the Double Tree Inn. It was fun, but I'm glad it's over. Thursday night I went out with Steve and some of his family and friends and proceeded to get drunk from about 9:00 - 2:00. Friday night we had the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner at Shadows Keep. I had heard some not so good things about Shadows Keep but I thought that the food was great (but I didn't have to pay for it so that helped). We got to Shadows keep at about 7:00 and I ended up drinking until about 1:00. Then on Saturday Dan and I started drinking at about 2:00 and only lightly stopped during the wedding. I didn't stop drinking until about 1:00 again. Thats about 22 hours of drinking in three days. I think I'm done drinking for a while.

Well, That's about all that I've been up to, drinking and writting a jabber trivia bot in perl. I think I'm going to sit back and play some WoW now (after the laundry is done). It's funny, I feel like crap and get down on myself when I'm not solving problems. Now that I solved the problem of not having a trivia bot I'm floating. Let's hope it lasts a long time.
