The Theory of Quantum Computers

The invention of the quantum computer would be one of the greatest inventions of all time. Such a machine would provide profound insights into our world (and possible others). It would allow the calculation of the previously incalculable. In the last 20 years the idea has inched its way toward reality. Many obstacles in the creation of such a machine have been cleared but there are still many more. I will discuss the history and theory behind quantum computers as well as how close to reality one really is.
